As I have mentioned previously, I am studying primarily Old Testament books this year and it has been a great time of study. I wish I could convince others that they need to be in the Old Testament regularly. But it has been hard to find companion sermons on the Old Testament to go along with my study. I usually can find New Testament expository sermons from a reformed perspective very easily. But it is harder with the Old. Enter Ligon Duncan.
The first time I heard Ligon Duncan speak was at the T4G 2006. He spoke on preaching from the Old Testament (something that I hadn’t done much of). The Holy Spirit convicted me of my lack of Old Testament study. Something I brought from that conference was a earnest desire to know the Old Testament. So, during 2007, I finished the youth bible studies that I had been doing and started teaching throught the Old Testament in the Fall of last year. We are only half way through Genesis, but it has been really, really good.
Ligon Duncan has somewhat recently made available his sermons at First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Mississippi on the book of Numbers. I have been downloading them and started the first one today. Thank you Dr. Duncan! I wish we had more preachers who would preach expositionally through the Old Testament.
